Looking for Pickleball Near Martinez? Why Lakeridge Is Worth the Drive

Pickleball players in Martinez may now be looking for new places to play.

The Martinez City Council voted to discontinue pickleball at the Hidden Valley courts effective immediately after ongoing neighborhood concerns, and local reporting said Martinez does not currently have other free public pickleball courts in the city. That means many players may now be looking toward nearby communities for alternatives.

Some people may choose to explore public options in nearby cities. But for players who want more than just another place to squeeze in a game, Lakeridge Athletic Club offers a different kind of option — one that combines pickleball with a full athletic club experience. Lakeridge’s site highlights six pickleball courts as part of its broader court-sports program.

A Strong East Bay Option for Pickleball Players
Located in El Sobrante, Lakeridge is a full-service athletic club on a six-acre campus with a country-club-style setting. The club promotes pickleball as part of a larger wellness environment that also includes fitness, aquatics, group exercise, racquetball, spa amenities, and more.

That matters right now. East Bay pickleball players have already seen how quickly access can change. The Martinez closure is the newest example, and Richmond’s Craneway pickleball club also closed indefinitely in 2025. For players who want a more dependable place to play, consistency matters.

Why Lakeridge Stands Out
Public courts can be great when you simply want a place to play. But many players want more than a basic public-court setup. They want a place that feels welcoming, dependable, and built around an active lifestyle.
Lakeridge stands out because it offers six pickleball courts within a broader court-sports environment that also includes two indoor racquetball courts and two outdoor lighted tennis courts. For players who enjoy variety — or families where different people enjoy different activities — that can make a big difference.
And the appeal of Lakeridge goes well beyond court sports.

The club’s amenities include a full fitness center, group exercise classes, a year-round heated outdoor pool, and spa-style recovery features including a whirlpool, dry sauna, and steam room. Lakeridge also describes its setting as a resort-style health and wellness environment, which helps support the idea of a more private oasis compared with a standard public-court experience.

More Than Just Another Place to Play
That is what makes Lakeridge especially appealing for players coming from a situation like Martinez.

Instead of simply replacing one court with another, players can move into an environment that offers pickleball plus the kinds of amenities public courts usually do not provide: a warm pool for year-round use, a full workout facility, indoor racquetball, group classes, and recovery options like steam, sauna, and whirlpool. Lakeridge also emphasizes community and wellness as part of the overall experience.

For some people, that may be the deciding factor. If you are going to drive a little farther, it helps when the destination offers more value once you get there.

Why It May Be Worth the Drive
Dedicated pickleball players often care less about whether something is the absolute closest option and more about whether it is the right fit.

Lakeridge gives East Bay players a chance to play pickleball in a setting that is more complete than a typical public-court setup. Between the courts, the fitness amenities, the heated pool, the spa-style features, and the broader club atmosphere, it offers a package that many public locations simply cannot match.

So while nearby public courts may still be part of the conversation, Lakeridge stands out for players who want a place that supports not only their game, but their overall lifestyle and wellness goals.

Explore Pickleball at Lakeridge
With the Martinez courts now closed, many local players may be rethinking where they want to play next. If you are looking for pickleball near Martinez and want more than just open court space, Lakeridge Athletic Club is worth a closer look. Its site highlights pickleball, aquatics, fitness, group exercise, racquetball, tennis, and spa-style amenities as part of one full-service membership experience.
